Fly-tippers cover field in enormous heap of rubbish

Waste pile in Oxfordshire Local resident
Illegal dumping site

This location has been labeled an "environmental crisis".
Journalist inspected the scene and said the pile appeared to be "20ft high at least".

Waste criminals have dumped a massive amount of waste in a open space in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental catastrophe occurring in public view" is around 150m (490ft) extending and 6m (20ft) high.

The enormous pile has appeared in a field next to the River Cherwell close to Kidlington.

Elected official highlighted the problem in parliament, declaring it was "threatening an environmental disaster".

Conservation group reported the illegal waste site was formed approximately a few weeks back by an organised crime group.

"This is an ecological disaster developing in plain sight.

"Every day that passes raises the danger of hazardous drainage getting into the waterways, poisoning animals and threatening the health of the whole river basin.

"Environmental authorities must act now, not in extended periods, which is their typical action timeframe."

Legal prohibition had been implemented by the regulatory body.

It is challenging to recognize any particular bits of waste as it appears to have been pulverized with earth blended.

Some of the garbage from the top of the mound has fallen and is now just five feet from the river.

The River Cherwell is a feeder stream of the River Thames, which means it flows through Oxford before meeting the Thames.

Parliament representative mentioned the price of clearing the rubbish would be substantial

The MP asked the administration for assistance to clear the unauthorized dump before it resulted in a fire or was washed away into the water network.

Informing MPs on recently, he declared: "Lawbreakers have deposited a massive amount of unlawful plastic waste... weighing substantial weight, in my electoral area on a floodplain alongside the River Cherwell.

"Stream volumes are rising and temperature readings demonstrate that the rubbish is also increasing in temperature, elevating the threat of combustion.

"Environmental authorities stated it has restricted resources for compliance, that the projected price of removal is higher than the entire annual funding of the municipal authority."

Cabinet member said the authorities had assumed responsibility for a underperforming recycling sector that had caused an "epidemic of unlawful dumping".

She told representatives the authority had issued a restriction order to halt additional entry to the location.

In a statement, the authority said it was examining the situation and requested for information.

It stated: "We acknowledge the community's anger about situations like this, which is why we take action against those culpable for illegal dumping."

A recently published investigation discovered attempts to combat serious environmental offenses have been "critically neglected" despite the problem developing into larger and more sophisticated.

Government advisors suggested an autonomous "thorough" inquiry into how "prevalent" illegal dumping is dealt with.
