Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight last season, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead any other side in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for all the boys also. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
