One of the co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business with Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to personally create this new product as part of a personal collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Creators and Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the ongoing tension between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted that the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen stated through an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, that match the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement plus Current Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales in disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally established several years back to support former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed that he will develop other ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, after many years of involvement, citing worries that the company's autonomy had been compromised following Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to keep working within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy so that the company can fulfill the social mission, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
